Wife always slips her hand into her husband’s shirt. The reason why is quickly going viral

     
A man has shared his incredible love story with his wife to Humans of New York, and it’s leaving the internet in tears.

 As she slowly slips away to dementia, he explains why she likes to slip her hand under his shirt.

The story begins when he was 19 and she was 16, and he describes each other as simple people who quickly fell in love. 

They soon got married and spent 50 years together and celebrated their 50th anniversary, and as they were driving home, he noticed that something was wrong.

     

 
He explains to Humans of New York creator Brandon Stanton-“On the drive home, she kept telling me that we were going the wrong way. 

She was very insistent. Ididn’t fight her.

 I kept letting her turn around because I knew that eventually we’d hit the main road back to Michigan. 

I knew then. Her father had dementia.

 And so did his father. So I knew what was happening.

”From there, the disease began to take over, leading her to slowly lose her memories.

 One morning, he found that she had left their home in the middle of the night. Luckily, he was able to find her, but she fought back and didn’t want to return home.

He notes that she soon forgot how to play piano, despite that being one of her favorite pastimes. 

Quitting volunteering and playing at the senior center together marks one of their most difficult moments. Despite all of that, the husband insiststhat 

it’s all worth it.He explains further-“…But I don’tsee this as a curse. 

It’s an honor. 

This is what the Lord has given me to do. She has served this family her entire life.

 And now it’s my turn to serve her.

 I might not have her mentally. 

But I have her.

 I can still make her smile. 

I canmake bubbly noises, and blow on her, and she’ll smile.

 Every morning we’ll sit in this chair and we’ll cuddle until noon.

 I rock this lady more than I rock my grandchildren. She likes to slip her hand under my shirt to feel my skin. 

And she still likes to kiss. Every once in awhile she’ll reach up and give me a kiss. 

Sometimes she starts ‘yakking.’ She doesn’t say actual words. 

And it doesn’t make any sense. But I never tell her to be quiet, because it’s better than nothing at all.”
