Sick toddler is in desperate need of a liver. Then babysitter offers to donate hers

Most nanny jobs are seen as a great way to make money and spend time with children, but one woman went above and beyond the job description when she decided to donate her liver to the child she took care of during the day.
Kiersten Miles had been taking care of Talia Rosko, a 16-month-old toddler, for three weeks when she decided to donate a part of her liver to the young girl. Talia was previously diagnosed with a rare, life-threatening disease where her liver’s central bile duct had been destroyed. She needed a new liver fast and had been placed on the transplant list around the same time Miles had been hired by the Rosko family.
The 22-year-old nanny knew what she wanted to do.

She explained to the Washington Post, “Especially for a baby who can’t really ask for help, it didn’t seem like that much of a sacrifice because I’d be saving a life.”
Almost immediately upon being hired, Miles started looking up organ donation, which was sparked initially by curiosity because she had a type O blood type, which made her a universal donor.
After careful research, she decided to sit down with Talia’s parents.
“I was very taken aback,” Mother Farra Rosko later explained about the situation. “I didn’t know that she was this selfless — I’ve come to find out that this is who she is. She really is an angel on earth; I know that sounds silly, but she really is.”

After extensive tests, Miles was confirmed to be an appropriate donor for Talia, and on January 11th, the two of them underwent surgery for the transplant at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Miles noted that she was afraid when she woke up that something had gone wrong, but cried from happiness when the surgeon told her everything had gone perfectly.
A couple of days later, Miles was healthy enough to visit Talia.
“When I saw Kiersten come in, my heart skipped a beat,” Rosko explained. “It was like a movie star coming in. Even the doctors and the nurses were saying, ‘Is this your live donor? Oh, my God, tell me the story.’ Everybody was just so taken aback by her generosity.”
Rosko is utterly grateful for everything Miles has done. “I think people need to know that prayer does work, angels do exist and miracles happen every day,” she concluded. “I don’t know where we would be without Kiersten.”
The dedication to taking care of a child in need and selflessness in her sacrifice truly makes Miles an angel on Earth. Her beautiful actions make her a hero to us all and we hope to see many more beautiful moments in nanny and child moments between baby Talia and Miles.
